About Boringdon Hall Hotel
Boringdon Hall is a 16th-century Tudor manor set in 32 acres of grounds above Plymouth — one of the most atmospheric historic hotels in Devon, and genuinely welcoming to dogs. The original great hall, stone fireplaces, and leaded windows create a setting that feels worlds away from the city below, while the award-winning Gaia Spa adds a contemporary luxury layer that few historic hotels manage to pull off without losing their character.
Dogs are permitted in a select number of rooms at the hotel’s discretion — the hotel’s doorman, a bowler-hatted figure who walks a miniature dachshund at the entrance, has become something of an unofficial mascot for the hotel’s dog-friendly credentials. Boringdon Hall is positioned for dog owners who want luxury and history in one stay, with Dartmoor National Park accessible within 20 minutes and the South Devon coast within 30.
The hotel’s Gaia Spa — housed in a purpose-built glass and timber building at the edge of the estate — is one of the finest hotel spas in the South West. It’s independent of the dog-friendly accommodation, meaning humans can fully enjoy the facilities after a morning walk on Dartmoor while dogs rest in the room.

What Dog Owners Say
The doorman walking his dachshund at the entrance is the first thing you see on arrival — it sets the tone immediately. Staff throughout the stay were genuinely warm with our border terrier, and the room was well set up with space for a dog bed without feeling cramped.
The combination of Tudor history and the Gaia Spa is unusual and genuinely excellent. We walked the grounds with our spaniel in the morning, then took turns in the spa while the other kept the dog. The hotel staff helped us plan the day around both. Dartmoor is close enough for a proper walk without making it a whole day.
