Key insights on dog-friendly hotel destinations in the UK
Cambridge
Cambridge ranks as the most dog-friendly city in the UK, with 46.3%of hotels welcoming dogs . Out of the 244 hotels in the city, 113 are listed as pet-friendly on Tripadvisor.
Carlisle
Carlisle leads the rankings for quality, with 28.4% of dog-friendly hotels rated 4 or 5 stars. It also ranks second in the percentage of pet-friendly hotels overall, at 31.9%.
Durham
Durham secures the third spot in the rankings for dog-friendly hotels. Out of the 93 hotels in the city, 19 are recognized as welcoming to pets (20.4%).
Gloucester and plymouth
Gloucester and Plymouth stand out as top performers in the South West and in the overall regional ranking for dog-friendly accommodations, with 20.3% (16 hotels) and 17.1% (26 hotels) of their hotels, respectively, welcoming dogs.
London
Despite having an impressive total of 4,698 hotels, London sees only **4.4%** (208 hotels) catering to dog owners. This highlights a significant business opportunity for expanding pet-friendly hospitality services in the capital.
Liverpool
Liverpool ranks the lowest for dog-friendly hotels, with just over 3% listed as pet-friendly on Tripadvisor. However, as one of the UK's most popular travel destinations, the city holds significant potential for growth.
East of England
Leading the pack with the highest overall percentage of dog-friendly hotels at 27.5%
south West England
South West England secures the second spot in the regional rankings, with 13.2% of its hotels welcoming pets.

The East of England leads as the most dog-friendly region, with 27.48% of its hotels welcoming dogs.Â
Following closely behind, the South West of England ranks second with 23.23% of dog-friendly hotels, showcasing its strong pet-friendly hospitality.Â
Greater London, despite having the most hotels overall, has the lowest percentage of dog-friendly options.
Other regions such as Wales and Scotland also offer a substantial number of dog-friendly accommodations.

Liverpool: The Least Dog-Friendly City
Liverpool ranks lowest in dog-friendliness among the cities analyzed, with only 3.0% of its hotels allowing dogs, and just 1.7% of these rated 4+ stars.Â
London ranks low in dog-friendliness, with only 4.4% of its hotels allowing dogs. Additionally, just 3.5% of these hotels are rated 4+ stars, highlighting a lack of high-quality options for dog owners.Â
With a growing number of dog owners and numerous pet-friendly activities in and around London, there’s substantial potential for growth in dog-friendly accommodations.

Methodology
How did we rank the most dog-friendly cities by number and quality of hotels?Â
We analyzed data from the top 36 cities identified in a YouGov travel poll (Q2 2024).
Using Tripadvisor, we assessed the percentage of dog-friendly hotels in each city.
Cities were ranked based on both the availability and quality of dog-friendly accommodations.Â
